Granny Targeted in Crafty £10 Distraction Scam
An elderly man in his 80s was conned out of his bank cards after a sneaky trick in Gravel Walk on 11 July 2023. A woman he didn’t know told him he had dropped a £10 note and urged him to check his wallet. While distracted, the crooks swiped two of his bank cards.
Cards Used to Bleed Cash in Canterbury and Faversham
Not long after, the stolen cards were used to withdraw cash from ATMs in Canterbury and Faversham. Police have now released CCTV images of two suspects they want to identify.
“We urge anyone who recognises these individuals to come forward,” said PC Andy Berthnal. “Shoppers must stay alert to avoid falling victim to opportunist thieves.”
Police Warn: Protect Your PIN and Don’t Get Distracted
PC Berthnal added, “Always shield your PIN when using a cash machine or paying for items. Be extra cautious if a stranger starts a chat outside shops or banks.”
He stressed the importance of contacting your bank immediately if your cards go missing to stop thieves draining your cash or making purchases.
