Police Clamp Down on Car Meet Chaos in Medway
From 6pm Friday, 20 January, until 6pm Sunday, 22 January, dispersal orders will be active across Medway City Estate, Hoo Peninsula, and Strood Retail Park. The move targets expected large gatherings of car enthusiasts, known for dangerous driving and antisocial behaviour.
Crackdown on Dangerous Car Meets
Authorities got wind of plans for a massive car meet. In the past, such events have sparked reckless driving, noise, and distress for local residents. To stop a repeat, police are ready to take firm action.
What the Orders Mean for Drivers
- Officers can stop anyone causing antisocial behaviour.
- Anyone misbehaving can be removed from the area.
- Vehicles involved may be seized on the spot.
- Refusing to leave could lead to arrest.
Police Warn Repeat Offenders
“We will continue to act on information that suggests these gatherings as they can have a disproportionate and negative impact on the local communities,” said Sergeant Steve Holpin of the Medway Community Safety Unit. “Those who cause a nuisance on a regular basis risk having their vehicles seized and being arrested.”
Concerned citizens can report antisocial behaviour online at the Kent Police website. Police urge residents to stay vigilant and help keep their communities safe.
