Police Dog PD Vinnie Dies After Brave Battle with Cancer
Tragic news from Wiltshire Police as PD Vinnie, a highly skilled police dog, has passed away following a rapid fight with prostate cancer.
From Gloucester to Wiltshire: Vinnie’s Heroic Career
PD Vinnie wasn’t just any pooch. He started out as a General Purpose Dog before qualifying in 2018 as a Tactical Firearms Support dog. This rare skill set meant he could work alongside armed response officers when dangerous situations demanded it. Vinnie originally served with Gloucester Police before transferring to Wiltshire.
Heartfelt Tribute from Dog Section Manager
Dog Section Manager Ian Partington paid tribute: “PD Vinnie was a fantastic police dog – he had all the skills you look for in an ideal police dog and we are all extremely saddened by this news, especially his handler PC Duffy.”
Ian also shed light on the deep bond between dog and handler: “The bond between a police dog handler and their dog is indescribably strong. As with all our police dogs, PD Vinnie lived at home with PC Duffy and his family – I know they will be hit hard by the news.”
Illness Came on Fast
A recent vet appointment revealed the heartbreaking diagnosis. Vinnie was suffering from prostate cancer, with symptoms only surfacing in the final few weeks.
“The illness was very progressive,” said Ian, adding that Vinnie’s contributions to the force will never be forgotten.
“Police dogs are an incredible asset to our police force and their skills are unmatched. Vinnie will be missed – thank you for your service.”
