Customer Targeted in Scam Attempt Involving £3,264 iPhone Order
Last night, a customer began receiving strange texts and emails from O2, thanking them for staying loyal, confirming an upgrade, and notifying them of a new phone order.
Checking their account, they were shocked to find an order placed for two iPhone XS Max phones, each priced at a whopping £1,632.40 – totalling £3,264.80.
Account Hijacked: Password and Security Changed
From late last night until 1pm the next day, the victim bombarded with messages from O2 informing them their password and security questions had been altered.
O2’s customer service was closed, but first thing this morning, the customer contacted them and swiftly alerted their fraud team.
Dodgy Delivery Courier Caught on Camera
Then, a DPD text popped up, saying a delivery would arrive between 2.14pm and 3.14pm.
At exactly 2.14pm, a suspicious woman was seen lurking outside the victim’s house, hanging around the driveway as if waiting for the phones.
Luckily, the homeowner had CCTV and managed to film her sneaky behaviour.
Confrontation and Police Involvement
When the courier arrived with the phones at 2.34pm, the dodgy visitor became confrontational and abusive. However, she quickly fled once she knew the police were on their way.
The phones didn’t fall into her hands – but this scam shows just how brazen criminals have become.
Warning: If you see strange orders on your phone account or spot dodgy characters hanging around your property, report it immediately.
