Brutal Plymouth Acid Attack: Police Warn Against Fake News
Detectives hunting two men behind a savage acid attack in Plymouth have slammed false rumours spreading online. They urge the public to trust only official sources for facts.
Acid Assault Shocks Lipson Road Community
The terrifying assault happened in the early hours of Friday, February 21. Two men forced their way into a property on Lipson Road and viciously attacked a man in his 30s. Police confirmed the caller had acid thrown at him. He remains in a serious condition in hospital as officers race to catch the culprits.
Social Media Misinformation Sparked Outrage
Since the attack, wild claims flooded social media, especially X (formerly Twitter). Rumours wrongly claimed a 14-year-old girl was injured. Devon and Cornwall Police have categorically denied this, calling the stories “simply untrue.”
Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft said: “We are working tirelessly to investigate this brutal attack which took place one week ago. Our detectives and partner agencies have been following leads both in Plymouth and further afield to try and bring to justice those responsible.
“This was an isolated and targeted attack tied to organised crime. We urge the public to rely on official statements and ignore online speculation.”
Suspects Still at Large, Police Seek Witnesses
Police describe the suspects as two Black men in their early 20s. A previous appeal in Wiltshire proved fruitless, with detectives now confident the pair have moved on. Officers urge anyone who witnessed the attack or has CCTV/dashcam footage to come forward immediately.
