Shock theft at church: Elderly woman robbed of £500 in daring daylight heist
Thieves strike inside sacred space
Greater Manchester Police in Prestwich are hunting a sneaky duo who targeted an 84-year-old woman at Our Lady of Grace Church on Fairfax Road. The brazen theft happened at just before noon on Monday, October 16, 2023.
How it went down
The elderly victim was followed by a man and woman as she headed into her local church. Once inside, the pair confronted her in the centre of the building. While one kept the lady distracted with chat, the other snatched an envelope from her handbag – containing a whopping £500 in cash. The pair then bolted together, leaving the shocked woman stranded.
Police release suspect images, plea for witnesses
Officers have now released images of the suspects. They’re urging anyone who was nearby or recognises the pair to come forward. Detective Inspector Emma Stevens slammed the heartless crime:
“This is a despicable crime targeting a vulnerable elderly woman within the confines of her church. We are determined to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
