Chaos on A27 as Van Smashes Into Multiple Cars

Police are hunting witnesses after a white Ford Transit van careered into several vehicles on the A27 between Lancing and Worthing just before 6.30pm last Friday (1 October).

Van Driver Flees Scene Before Arrest

The van was travelling west between Lancing and Lyons Farm, Worthing, when it collided with multiple cars and was then abandoned roadside. Officers soon found the 32-year-old driver nearby and took him into custody.

Luckily, the crash caused only minor injuries. None of the drivers needed hospital treatment.

Brighton Man Arrested for Drink Driving and Damage

The driver, a man from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, and other offences. While in custody, he was also held for damaging a police cell.

He was questioned and has since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Investigation Shut the A27 for Over Two Hours

PC Tom Van de Wee said: “This happened during rush hour and caused major disruption and damage.”
