Baby Pushchair Nipped by Hit-and-Run Car on Seafront
Kelly Pegg, the mum at the centre of a terrifying hit-and-run, has opened up about her shock. She can’t stop thinking about what might have happened if she’d been just a few steps further forward.
Car Clips Pram on Pedestrian Crossing
The incident unfolded outside Bill’s Fish Shop on the seafront at around 1:30pm on November 19. CCTV footage shows a black car speeding towards two women crossing the road. The vehicle refuses to slow down and clips the front wheel of a pushchair before speeding off.
Kelly and her friend were left shaken and distressed, but thankfully, the six-month-old baby in the pram escaped injury.
“The pram wheel spun around after it was hit – I would just never expect a car to hit me on a pedestrian crossing when they are meant to be safe for us to use,” Kelly, 33, said. “I haven’t been out since it happened but when I do I’ll avoid the area after that awful experience. It’s a real shame as it is one of our favourite stretches by the sea to visit.”
Police Launch Urgent Appeal for Witnesses
PC David Bew, the investigating officer, has urged anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. “This incident is a harsh reminder of the dangers careless driving presents on our roads,” he said.
The driver or anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.
