Tragic Death of Toddler in East London Flat
Police rushed to Sutton Street, E1 at 4.12pm on Saturday, 11 December after a child was found unresponsive in a flat.
The young girl was taken to an East London hospital but was sadly pronounced dead the same day.
Identity and Investigation
While formal ID is pending, officers believe the child is Fatiha Sabrin. Her family has been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are treating Fatiha’s death as unexplained and have launched a full investigation.
A detailed post-mortem will be carried out in due course to uncover the cause.
Chemicals Found at The Scene
The London Fire Brigade swept the building and found a quantity of chemicals, thought to be pest control substances. Work is ongoing to remove these from the property.
Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett, overseeing policing in Tower Hamlets and Hackney, said:
“Our thoughts remain first and foremost with Fatiha and her family. This is a tragic incident and we are doing everything we can to support them and understand what has happened.”
“All other residents were evacuated as a precaution. We know this is distressing and are working with local authorities to meet residents’ needs and provide updates on when they can return home.”
Other Residents Affected
Several people in the building sought treatment after feeling unwell. One woman and a child remain in hospital. Their injuries are not life-changing or life-threatening.
