New Safety App Hollie Guard Puts Power in Your Hands
Feeling unsafe on your way home, out for a run, or going about your day? Hollie Guard is the app designed to protect you. Just give your phone a shake, and it sends an instant alert to your chosen contacts — letting them know you might be in danger.
Once triggered, the app begins recording audio and video, capturing everything around you. The footage is then automatically sent to your emergency contacts, who can call the police or ambulance if needed. Shake the phone again, and it sounds a loud, high-pitched alarm to alert anyone nearby.
Police Endorse App to Boost Women’s Safety
Detective Chief Supt Andy Cox said: “We are backing this app to help women and girls feel safer amid growing concerns about their vulnerability. We won’t tell women not to walk alone or change their behaviour – attacks are ALWAYS the fault of the attacker, never the victim.”
“What we WILL do is provide tools to help people stay safe, whether they’re out running, meeting someone new, or heading home.”
“The app is simple to download and set up. One shake of the phone when you can’t call 999 could save your life.”
Packed with Life-Saving Features
- Journey Mode: Share your real-time location with emergency contacts while travelling between places.
- Meeting Mode: Set a timer for potentially risky meetings – if you don’t cancel it, an alert will be sent automatically.
- Man Down: Detects sudden falls or if you stop moving, perfect for lone runners, dog walkers, or workers at heights.
- Report Feature: Quickly record incidents with photos, timestamps, and GPS data. Saved securely for evidence without clogging your device.
- Duress PIN: Enter 9999 if forced to cancel an alert – the app looks cancelled, but your emergency contacts are still alerted.
Built in Memory of Hollie Gazzard
The app was created to honour 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard, murdered in 2014 by an ex-partner. The Hollie Gazzard Trust was founded by her family to fight domestic violence. They run programmes teaching schools and colleges about healthy relationships and abuse prevention.
The Trust aims to protect young people by partnering with communities and charities to make a real difference.
