Two Arrested After Series of Knifepoint Taxi Robberies in Portsmouth
Police have arrested two men following a string of four knifepoint robberies against taxi drivers in Paulsgrove, Portsmouth. Authorities are also linking a separate robbery at a Spar shop on Leith Avenue on the evening of December 28 to the same suspects.
Robbers Target Taxi Drivers and Spar Shop
The four attacks on taxi drivers happened over two days—Friday, December 30, and Saturday, December 31. Cash and mobile phones were stolen during these terrifying hold-ups. Earlier, the Spar shop was hit, with a quantity of cash taken.
Fortunately, none of the taxi drivers were physically harmed during the crimes.
Two Men in Custody as Police Investigate
Police have detained a 46-year-old and a 41-year-old man, both from Portsmouth, who remain in custody. Detective Inspector James Stewart praised the public for their help.

Police Promise to Clean Up Crime in Portsmouth
Portsmouth District Chief Inspector Jim Pegler condemned the attacks.
“This type of crime has a big impact on small businesses such as taxi firms and convenience stores. The offenders also targeted lone workers, which is completely unacceptable in Portsmouth. We will continue our efforts to make Portsmouth safer for all its residents.”
