Hampshire Police Crack Down on Rural Crime Amid Dark Nights
Rural Crime Soars in Hampshire
Hampshire’s countryside is under siege. Criminals are exploiting the darker autumn and winter evenings to target isolated rural spots. Fields, farms, and remote communities have been hit hard.
- Burglaries stealing power tools, quad bikes, and farm machinery.
- Wildlife crimes including poaching and hare coursing.
Just last week, several farms near Stratfield Saye and rural Basingstoke fell victim to break-ins. The spate of thefts has forced police to boost patrols and crack down.
Massive Overnight Police Operation Launched
On Thursday, 9 January, Deputy Chief Constable Sam de Reya led a large-scale, overnight police blitz targeting rural criminals. The operation rolled into the early hours of Friday, 10 January.
Areas hit hard by the crackdown include:
- 123
- Hart
- East Hampshire
