Tragic Boxing Day Stabbing at Birmingham Nightclub
Just before midnight on Boxing Day, 23-year-old Cody Fisher was fatally stabbed on the dancefloor of The Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham. The young man was enjoying a night out with friends when a group approached him, leading to the deadly attack, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Despite emergency efforts, Cody died around 30 minutes after officers arrived at the scene.
Guests Warned of ‘Moody’ Atmosphere and Lax Security
Partygoers described a tense vibe inside The Crane that night. Sydnee Power, aged 23 from Birmingham, said: “There were just groups of lads everywhere, most of them looked moody. A lot were clearly there to cause trouble; they weren’t there to enjoy the music.”
An 18-year-old from Wolverhampton criticised the nightclub’s poor security checks. He revealed: “Not once were we asked to clear our pockets. They didn’t even properly search me — just tapped me to go through. That’s the worst search I’ve ever seen. Anything could have been brought in.”
Club Cancels New Year’s Eve Event Amid Ongoing Investigation
The Crane quickly cancelled its New Year’s Eve party. The club released a statement on Instagram saying: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened that a man lost his life last night as our Boxing Day event came to a close. Our hearts go out to the victim, his family, and his friends.”
They added they are working closely with West Midlands Police and urged witnesses to come forward. Tickets holders for the cancelled event will be refunded.
Police Appeal for Witnesses as Investigation Continues
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, leading the investigation, said:
“This was a young man enjoying himself with friends on a Boxing Day night out, and our thoughts are with his friends and family today.”
She called on anyone who saw or filmed the incident to contact police.
Cody’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers. The nightclub remains closed while detectives gather evidence, with local officers patrolling the area to reassure residents.
