Crackdown on Rogue Riders in Canterbury City Centre
Police and council officers teamed up in Canterbury on the evening of Friday, 17 December 2021, to crack down on anti-social riding and illegal parking. The joint operation targeted nuisance bikes and traffic offenders causing havoc in the city centre.
Eight Warnings and Eight Fines Slapped on the Spot
The Community Safety Unit handed out eight Section 59 warnings under the Police Reform Act 2002. These warnings tell riders their bikes could be seized if caught behaving badly again. Canterbury City Council officers issued a further eight fixed penalty notices for parking in disabled and loading bays.
One rider was caught driving without the proper licence and received a Traffic Offence Report. Another was ordered to provide documentation within seven days.
Authorities Send a Strong Message
Inspector Guy Thompson said: “We understand delivery riders provide an important service, but it mustn’t come at the expense of city centre safety.”
“We hope this action will make riders think twice and help keep Canterbury safe and enjoyable for everyone.”
Cllr Ashley Clark added: “This joint operation tackles those ignoring the rules designed to protect the public.
“It’s about balancing support for businesses with addressing public safety concerns. We hope the message has hit home.”
