Warning After iPhone Snatched in Folkestone McDonald’s
Kent Police have issued a caution to locals following a bold distraction theft at a Folkestone fast food spot.
Theft Details
On Monday, November 18, 2024, between 3pm and 3:30pm, an iPhone was reportedly stolen from a woman dining at McDonald’s on West Terrace.
A teenage boy, around 17 years old and of mixed race, approached the victim and her friend to start a chat. He then allegedly placed a piece of paper over the woman’s phone on the table and, as he walked away, took the paper and the phone hidden underneath it.
The suspect had short dark brown or black hair and was wearing black clothing.
Police Urge Caution
Detective Inspector Carlo Capozzi warned: “While my officers investigate, I urge everyone to be vigilant with their belongings when out in public and when strangers approach you.
Don’t hesitate to check your valuables before engaging with anyone. Never leave valuables unattended, even for a moment.”
“Keep phones out of sight, in zipped pockets or bags. Enabling phone tracking apps can help recover lost or stolen devices.”
