Man Questioned After Shining Laser at Police Helicopter During Isle of Wight Rescue
Laser Attack Disrupts Search for Missing Vulnerable Person
Police were hunting for a vulnerable individual with special needs on the Isle of Wight when their helicopter came under laser attack. The airborne team was supporting ground officers during the nighttime rescue mission.
Laser Shine Could Have Endangered Crew
The police helicopter crew faced a dangerous laser beam shining directly into the aircraft’s cockpit. Despite this, the crew stayed focused and safely located the source of the light. They spotted a man holding what appeared to be a weapon.
Suspect Spotted, Helicopter Lands to Investigate
The helicopter even made a brief landing in an attempt to get a better view of the suspect. Officers later spoke to the man, who was reportedly found with a gun. It’s still unclear if the firearm was real or a fake, and no arrests have yet been confirmed.
Police Urge Public to Take Laser Attacks Seriously
Authorities remind everyone that shining lasers at aircraft is a serious crime. It can temporarily blind pilots and put lives at risk. Both Hampshire Constabulary and the Metropolitan Police have urged the public to report any reckless laser use immediately.
