Man Arrested After Tower Hamlets Incident, Now Released Under Investigation

Arrest Made Following Disturbance on Abbott Road

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway, assaulting police, and resisting arrest in Tower Hamlets on Tuesday, 9 July. He has since been released under investigation while officers continue their enquiries.

Police and Independent Body Launch Full Probe

The Central East Command Unit’s professional standards team, working with the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, carried out a full review. Because the suspect sustained injuries during the incident, a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The IOPC has now taken over with an independent investigation underway.
