Thank You NHS Spitfire Set to Soar Again Over South Coast
Get your eyes skyward! The iconic “Thank You NHS” Spitfire is gearing up for another striking flypast. Taking off from Goodwood Aerodrome at 10:30am, the legendary aircraft will cruise over Hampshire before landing at Torbay Hospital in Torquay around 11:10am.
A Historic Aircraft Backed by Experts
This awe-inspiring Spitfire is restored and maintained by the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARC), based at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire. As the UK’s leading specialist aero engineering firm, ARC is renowned for its expert restorations of both flying and static historic aircraft.
Owned by John Romain, a former Hawker Siddeley and BAE aero engineer, ARC holds top CAA approvals (M3, M5, B1, and E4) and boasts over 1,000 hours flying Spitfires alone. The company even handles major servicing for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s fighter aircraft, Dakota, and Lancaster bombers.
Nominate Your Local NHS Hero to Fly on the Spitfire
This summer, ARC is inviting the public to add a personal touch to the Spitfire tribute. You can nominate a local NHS hero or frontline helper to have their name hand-written on the aircraft’s iconic “L.”
“A kind neighbour, family member on the frontline, volunteer PPE producer, or anyone who inspired you during the Covid-19 pandemic — we want to hear about them,” said ARC.
To get your loved one’s name on the plane, simply donate at least £10 via their JustGiving page. All proceeds go directly to NHS Charities Together to support frontline workers.
