Man Bailed in Hackney Murder Probe
Detectives have bailed a 26-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a 53-year-old on Upper Clapton Street, Hackney. The suspect attended an east London police station on 5 April and was interviewed by City of London Police homicide detectives before being released on bail until late April.
City of London Police Step In on Murder Case
With the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) stretched thin, City of London Police offered help and now lead the investigation. Superintendent Lee Presland, a former Met officer, is heading the probe, supported by the Met’s specialist teams. The collaboration highlights close ties between London’s forces, with City officers bringing expert knowledge to the case.
Victim Found Unconscious at Bookies
Police were called to a bookmakers on Upper Clapton Road at 4:27pm on 4 April after reports of a man unconscious at the scene. Despite efforts from the London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance crew, the 53-year-old victim died there and has yet to be formally identified. His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem is underway in Poplar.
Crucial Witnesses Urgently Needed
