Charred Mystery: Human Remains Found Near Cirencester Still Unidentified
Police are hunting for clues after human remains were found near Bathurst Estate, Cirencester, last year. A forestry worker stumbled upon the body close to the A419 Stroud Road on Tuesday, 1 May 2018.
Forensic Experts Come Up Empty
Despite full forensic and DNA tests, officers have yet to identify the man. The remains are thought to have been lying undiscovered for at least a year before discovery. Now, cops are asking the public for help.
Who Was He?
- Estimated as a white male, 5’5” to 5’8” tall, possibly stocky
- Age range: 28 to 55, with experts leaning towards 28-31
- Facial reconstruction image released to aid identification
What He Was Wearing & What Was Found
The deceased wore:
- Black/dark grey Peter Storm raincoat
- Grey/blue short-sleeve shirt with hand-stitched repairs
- Black gilet
- Blue trousers and dark leather belt
- Dark trainers with white soles
- Beige baseball cap found beside the body
Nearby items included a small Sony wireless FM radio, aviator sunglasses, a wind-up torch, and a Karrimor rucksack covered with a white plastic bag for waterproofing. These personal effects are distinctive and could be key to identifying him.
Isolated and Possibly Transient
No mobile phone or ID was found. Police believe he was a lone traveller, possibly moving regularly between Cirencester and Stroud. Earlier theories that he was a known local homeless man have been ruled out.
Detectives urge anyone who recognises a man fitting this description or recalls seeing someone matching it around the county to call 101 and quote Operation Octave.
