Shoreham Lifeboat Scrambles After Brighton Pier Plunge
On Thursday evening, Shoreham Inshore Lifeboat was launched following reports of a person jumping into the water at Brighton Palace Pier. Alongside Brighton lifeboat, the Coastguard rescue helicopter, and rescue teams from Shoreham and Littlehampton, a full search was quickly underway.
Casualty Found Safe, Police Make Three Arrests
Thankfully, the missing person was soon located onshore, safe and receiving medical attention. The search was stood down. The drama unfolded after a fight broke out on the pier at 7.15pm involving two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old boy.
Two of the youths were detained by police on arrival, but the third jumped into the water and swam to shore. He was immediately arrested. All three remain in custody, charged with assault, affray, and criminal damage.
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
A police spokesperson appealed: “Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to report online quoting serial 1529 of 20/07.”
Rescue Teams React Fast, Incident Closed Swiftly
Shoreham Coastguard confirmed: “We were tasked with Newhaven CG, Shoreham RNLI and the rescue helicopter to reports of a person in the water. After a swift search, we confirmed the person was safe. We stood down and returned to base.”
