Specialist Unit Joins Met Probe Into Russell Brand Sexual Assault Claims

A crack police squad set up after the Jimmy Savile scandal is now lending muscle to Scotland Yard’s investigation into serious sexual assault and rape allegations against comedian Russell Brand.

Scotland Yard Confirms Report Over Brand Allegations

Earlier this week, Scotland Yard revealed they’d received a formal complaint following explosive media reports about the 48-year-old entertainer. Brand has slammed the claims, calling them completely false.

Who Are The Hydrant Programme?

The Hydrant Programme, born from Operation Hydrant in 2014, is Britain’s go-to elite unit on child sexual abuse cases, especially involving famous figures. It was launched in the wake of shocking revelations about Jimmy Savile’s decades of abuse.

Savile, Britain’s most notorious sex predator, died in 2011. An ITV documentary after his death exposed the horrific scale of his crimes. Operation Yewtree, the resulting probe, uncovered 214 offences committed by the former DJ and “Top of the Pops” presenter.

Hydrant was created to manage historic abuse cases linked to high-profile names and institutions across the UK. Last year, its role expanded to cover child protection investigations for the National Police Chiefs’ Council, led by Deputy Chief Constable Ian Critchley.

Allegations Against Brand Span His Peak Career Years

The claims against Brand include rape, assault, and emotional abuse from 2006 to 2013—his heyday with the BBC, Channel 4, and Hollywood. These shocking allegations emerged from a joint investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches.

Both BBC and Channel 4 have launched their own probes into Brand’s past, with Channel 4 pulling all his content offline and the BBC removing some clips no longer considered appropriate.

Advertising platforms 1 and Acast have cut ties, blocking Brand from earning revenue on their sites. Meanwhile, Brand has postponed the rest of his Bipolarisation tour and continues to deny all accusations.

Other Platforms Respond As Investigation Continues

Right-wing video site Rumble distanced itself from the allegations, insisting they have no link to their content and reaffirming their commitment to internet freedom, unlike YouTube.

Russell Brand says, “I have been promiscuous, but all my relationships have been consensual.” The investigation is ongoing.
