Woman’s Body Found on Watlington Hill as Police Arrest Man

A man remains in custody after a woman in her sixties was found dead in Watlington Hill woodland on Friday evening. Police have launched a murder investigation.

Body Discovered in National Trust Park

At around 5:53pm on Friday 23rd October, the woman’s body was discovered in the Watlington Hill National Trust park. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Formal ID and a post-mortem are still pending.

23-Year-Old Arrested and Hospitalised

Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder after finding him naked and bleeding nearby. The suspect is now in hospital with serious but stable injuries. He remains in police custody while receiving treatment.

Investigation Underway – Not Believed to be Random

“We believe that this was not a random attack and that the victim and the attacker were known to each other,” said Detective Superintendent Craig Kirby.

“We are still in the very early stages of our investigation but I understand this will cause concern in the community.”

Detective Kirby urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward. Call Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting reference 1300 of 23/10/20 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police Presence Increased as Probe Continues

Crime scenes remain at several locations around the Christmas Common area while police carry on with their enquiries. Members of the public can expect an increased police presence and are encouraged to speak to officers if they have concerns or information.
