Shock Footage Emerges of Police Bashing Man at Manchester Airport

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a probe after video surfaced showing police officers allegedly punching and kicking a man during an arrest at Manchester Airport.

Violent Arrest Caught on Camera

The clip, filmed by a holidaymaker near the airport’s bus terminal just after 1pm on Sunday, December 29, 2024, shows officers wrestling a man to the ground. One cop can be seen repeatedly punching and kicking the suspect while others pin down his head and feet as he resists arrest.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were responding to reports of a drunk and disorderly man who had been refused bus entry and caused a scene. When he resisted, backup was called.

Watchdog Steps In

The IOPC confirmed they’re working closely with GMP to establish facts and check if any formal complaints have been lodged. “We are aware of footage circulating on social media and are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident,” an IOPC spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, GMP’s Professional Standards Unit is carrying out its own internal review. One spokesperson said, “We understand concerns about the use of force shown in the clip. We are reviewing all bodycam and CCTV footage as part of the investigation.”

Public Outcry and Mixed Reactions

  • The video has divided viewers online. Some condemn the officers’ harsh tactics.
  • Others back the officers, recognising the difficulties police face when suspects resist arrest.

No formal complaints have yet been filed by the man involved or the public. The arrested man was taken into custody following the incident.

Both IOPC and GMP urge anyone with further footage or info to come forward as the investigation continues.
