Big Police Clampdown as Bristol Gears Up for Protest

Police warn of potential disruption at Castle Park, Bristol, this Saturday evening (3 August). They promise to allow peaceful protests but will crack down hard on any disorder threatening public safety.

Extra Stop and Search Powers Activated

Following the tense scenes in Southport and unrest across other cities, senior officers have been coordinating closely with community leaders. A robust policing plan is locked and loaded.

From midday Saturday until 6am Sunday, Section 60 and 60AA stop and search powers will cover southern, central, and northern Bristol. This means cops can stop and search anyone they suspect to prevent trouble.

Additionally, a Section 35 dispersal zone is in place, allowing officers to move groups or individuals likely to cause harassment or distress.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Issues Warning

“We will not tolerate any disorder or criminal behaviour,” said Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Vicks Hayward-Melen. “There will be a significant police presence for both precaution and reassurance.

“While peaceful protest will be facilitated, any actions impacting the rights of our communities will be dealt with swiftly using pre-authorised powers.

“Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to an officer.”

Stay Safe, Stay Smart

  • Expect heavy police presence in Bristol city centre Saturday evening.
  • Stop and search powers and dispersal orders will be actively used.
  • Peaceful protests allowed but disorder won’t be tolerated.
  • Police urge the public to cooperate and report any concerns.

Keep up with updates and stay safe this weekend – Bristol means business when it comes to public order.
