Tragic fallout after JK show pulled amid overdose death
Daytime hit show Jeremy Kyle has been abruptly taken off air following the suicide of a 63-year-old Portsmouth man linked to a failed lie detector test on the programme.
Steve Dymond’s overdose prompts ITV to act
Steve Dymond, a building machine operator, took a drugs overdose just 10 days after flunking a lie detector test on the mid-morning show. ITV bosses swiftly yanked the Monday episode from the schedule and scrapped all access on ITV Player.
An ITV statement confirmed: “The show has been taken off air and is under review following the tragic news that Steve Dymond took a drugs overdose after failing the lie detector test. This episode will not be shown and filming and broadcasting have been stopped.”
Failed test tore couple apart
Steve appeared on the show to prove to fiancée Jane Callaghan that he hadn’t cheated. But he failed the polygraph, leading the couple to split soon after filming.
Landlady’s grim discovery sparks alert
Ten days after the show, Steve’s landlady found him dead in his Portsmouth flat. She contacted the Jeremy Kyle aftercare team after spotting a phone number linked to the show. They informed Jane, who initially thought it was a hoax.
