Residents of Somerstown, Portsmouth, were jolted awake by a massive bang just after midnight. A suspected drink driver ploughed into parked cars on Margate Road before speeding off into the night.

Crash Chaos on Margate Road

At 12.40am, a vehicle failed to stop at the Somers Road junction and smashed into a parked Ford Fiesta with such force it was pushed onto the pavement. Another nearby car also suffered damage in the terrifying collision.

The hit-and-run driver left the scene but the vehicle was later found abandoned across a driveway on St Andrews Road, just yards away from the crash site.

Residents Fear for Lives of Night Owls

“It’s lucky no one was walking past at the time,” said a nearby resident. “The area was packed with students heading home from a night out. If someone had been there when the car hit the fence, they could have been seriously hurt or worse.”

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed a full investigation is underway. Residents remain shaken as police hunt the culprit behind this reckless act.
