£20,000 Reward Launched 10 Years After Greenford Murder
It’s been a decade since delivery driver and reggae singer Ian Newtion was brutally killed in a Greenford underpass – and now the Met Police are throwing a massive £20,000 reward on the table to catch his killers.
Brutal Attack on Mother’s Day
Ian, 45, was found dead just before 9am on Sunday, 22 March 2009 – Mother’s Day – by a passerby near Greenford Roundabout. A post-mortem revealed he died from a throat injury likely inflicted by a broken beer bottle found at the scene.
His family say he was a kind, gentle man, well-loved in the community. He left behind a 31-year-old daughter and a grieving brother desperate for answers.
From Reggae Star to Local Legend
Before his murder, Ian performed as ‘Scoobie Santino’ and had a 1990s hit called ‘Money Honey’. He regularly performed at local venues and had been at a rave event on Rockware Avenue, known as the ‘Scout Hut’, the night before.
Police suspect Ian was attacked while making his way home after the gig. The motive is unclear but robbery is a possibility, though Ian’s belongings were untouched. Eight arrests have been made but no charges yet.
Police and Family Plead for Tips
“Ten years on, our determination to find Ian’s killers is as strong as ever,” said Detective Inspector Jamie Stevenson. “If you know something, now’s the time to speak up. It’s not too late to help deliver justice to Ian’s family.”
He added: “If you fear reprisals, contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Someone out there has vital information that could finally take this violent killer off the streets.”
Barry Newtion, Ian’s brother, said: “The person or persons responsible took everything from us that day. Ian brought joy through his music and didn’t deserve to die like this. If you know anything, please do the right thing.”
