Grenade Found on Ryde Beach Sparks Police Bomb Alert
Grenade Discovered on Ryde Esplanade
Hampshire police sealed off a stretch of Ryde Esplanade near North Walk this morning after a grenade was found on the beach — with the pin still intact. Officers quickly set up a 100-metre cordon to keep the public at bay as specialists were called in.
Bomb Squad Rushes to the Scene
Two officers maintained the cordon while awaiting bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth, who were expected to arrive by 9:30am. Local contractors also closed off the road to ensure public safety as the tense operation unfolded.
World War II Grenade Safely Removed
The bomb disposal team successfully removed the World War II-era grenade and transported it back to Portsmouth for further examination. Police have since lifted the cordon and declared the area safe, with officers departing the scene shortly after.
