Police Drone Dazzles Pupils at Mansfield Primary
Nottinghamshire Police’s drone team made a buzzing visit to Wainwright Primary Academy in Mansfield last Friday morning. PC Paul Henson took to the skies, flying a lightweight drone high above the playground to snap a striking aerial photo of pupils arranged to spell out the school’s initials.
Mini Police Squad Gets the Inside Scoop
After the drone display, PC Henson sat down with members of the school’s Mini Police squad for a lively Q&A. One of nearly 20 officers trained to pilot police drones, he explained how these gadgets help track down missing persons and catch criminals.
“I really enjoy these kinds of visits. It’s a very rewarding aspect of the job,” PC Henson said. “The kids asked some great questions about our work, and I was delighted to help with their aerial photo idea.”
Building Trust and Inspiring Future Cops
The Mini Police programme aims to build strong community ties by teaching kids about safety and the vital role of the police. Wainwright Primary Academy regularly hosts officers who share their experience as part of the scheme.
“This is significant because these children are the future police officers. If we can inspire and pique their interest in our work, that can only be a good thing,” said PC Henson.
Julia Hallam from the school added, “We’ve been honoured by this visit. Watching the children’s faces as the drone flew overhead was priceless. One of our youngest even exclaimed, ‘the drone was amazing!’”
She thanked Nottinghamshire Police for their ongoing support. “The Mini Police initiative has truly transformed how children see the police, and we’ve learned so much from it.”
