Met Police Launch Urgent Hunt for Escaped Convict Roaming London

The Met Police have launched a frantic manhunt after Ethiopian national Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu was accidentally released from HMP Chelmsford last Friday. Commander James Conway slammed the blunder and urged Kebatu to hand himself in immediately.

The 38-year-old, an asylum seeker and convicted sex offender, has been spotted hopping on and off trains across London. Eyewitnesses report Kebatu wearing a grey prison tracksuit, carrying just a clear plastic bag with his belongings.

“Mr Kebatu caught a 12.42pm train to Stratford after his release and has been travelling widely on London trains since then,” Commander Conway revealed. “He appears to have access to funds and has asked station staff and members of the public for help in Chelmsford and London.”

Met Urges Public: Don’t Help Kebatu, Call 999

The Met has pleaded with the public to stay alert and NOT assist Kebatu. Those who spot him or have unwittingly helped him are told to call 999 immediately.

“We want to find you safely and peacefully,” Conway said directly to Kebatu. “You’ve said you want to return to Ethiopia. The best thing is for you to contact us by calling 999 or going to a police station.”

Convicted Sex Offender’s Sinister Crimes Spark Public Fury

Kebatu arrived in the UK on a small boat just days before his horrific offences in July. He was convicted of sexual assaulting two teenage girls and a woman, including unwanted touching and disturbing comments about having babies with them.

The migrant was found guilty of five offences after a swift three-day trial at Chelmsford and Colchester magistrates’ courts in September. At sentencing, he made a blunt plea to be deported back to Ethiopia – a wish that now appears all the more urgent as he remains on the run.
