Operation Claymore Cracks Down on Crime in Essex

Essex Police are leading the charge in a major crackdown on crime with the help of officers from the Metropolitan and Hertfordshire forces. The cross-force team targets vehicles flagged by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, focusing on hotspots around Harlow and Epping Forest.

Joint Forces Bring Down Criminals

Supported by experts from Dog, Roads, Raptor, and Community Policing units, along with the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU), the operation hits hard. The recent sweep saw several men arrested on suspicion of serious offences including drug supply, possession of offensive weapons, criminal damage, and both drug and drink driving.

  • Two vehicles seized – one stolen from another county just days earlier
  • 33 stop-and-searches conducted during the operation
  • 23 intelligence reports filed to aid ongoing investigations

Success So Far: 50 Arrests and Counting

This marks the sixth joint operation for the three forces under the Claymore banner. Combined efforts have already netted 50 arrests. PC Ross Ashcroft, who coordinated the operation, explained the strategy:

“We are targeting organised criminal gangs using the road network to commit burglary, theft, and drug supply offences. These criminals move between counties and police areas, so stopping them crossing borders is key.”

“Collaboration and intelligence sharing between forces and specialist teams make a massive difference in tackling high-harm crime.”

“By actively hunting down crime-linked vehicles, we’re creating a hostile environment for offenders and sending out a strong deterrent.”

Operation Claymore continues as Essex and neighbouring forces unite to keep streets safer and criminals off the roads.
