Watch Out! Duo Snatch Man’s Bank Card in Broad Daylight

A cheeky crime unfolded in Calverley Park Gardens, Tunbridge Wells, at around 10am on Monday, 3 April 2023. Two women with foreign accents stopped a man asking for directions. Moments later, the victim realised his bank card had vanished.

When he contacted his bank, he found out the card had already been used in a failed attempt to steal a large sum of cash from a town centre cash machine.

Police Issue Warning to Shoppers

Detective Inspector Rik Spicer said: “These crimes aren’t common in Tunbridge Wells, but our officers stay sharp. Shoppers should stay vigilant to avoid falling victim to opportunist thieves.”

He advised:

  • Keep wallets zipped or buttoned in secure pockets.
  • Never leave handbags unattended on prams, trolleys, wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
  • Be wary if strangers ask for directions—these criminals often work in pairs, with one distracting you while the other pockets your valuables.
