Chaos in Owens Way: Hostage Drama Ends Without Harm

Specialist negotiators from the Metropolitan Police rushed to Owens Way on Sunday evening after reports of a hostage situation triggered panic in the neighbourhood.

Armed Unit and TSG Step In

Armed officers from the Met’s elite MO19 unit, backed by Territorial Support Group (TSG) reinforcements, sealed off the area just before 7 p.m., stepping in to diffuse the tense standoff.

Residents were told to stay indoors as police tried to calm the man, believed to be suffering a mental health crisis.

Hostage Freed, Suspect Arrested

Thanks to skilled negotiations, the hostage was released unharmed. Police maintained a cordon throughout the drama while continuing talks with the man.

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed: “Officers responded to concerns for a woman at a residential address on Owens Way, SE23 at 18:54hrs on Sunday, 9 February.

“A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray. He remains in custody. No one was injured.”

Situation Under Control, Investigation Ongoing

Official sources say the incident remains under close control with ongoing police presence. It’s still unclear whether further charges or measures will follow as the investigation continues.
