Kent Police score another win in war on drink and drug driving! Officers on patrol in Branbridges Road, East Peckham, sniffed out trouble when a passing truck reeked of cannabis. The sharp senses of the Roads Policing Unit paid off big time.
Quick Stop Leads to Arrest
The truck was pulled over fast. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Tonbridge, failed a roadside drug test. Police also found a small stash of herbal cannabis on him. He was arrested for drug driving but has now been released on bail while investigations continue.
Over 100 Nabbed This December
This arrest adds to the more than 100 people already caught under Kent Police’s tough annual December crackdown on drink and drug driving. The campaign is in full swing, targeting anyone risking lives on the roads.
Serious Risks Warned by Police
“People who drive when unfit to do so could end up losing their licence, their job, or even their life. They also risk causing serious injury or death to other road users when it is easily avoidable,”
said Chief Inspector Craig West. He added:
“Kent Police officers are trained to spot signs of drink and drug driving. If you get behind the wheel under the influence, there’s a good chance you’ll be stopped and taken into custody. Don’t drink or drug drive before Christmas or any other time of year. It’s simply not worth the risk.”
The Deadly ‘Fatal Factors’
Driving under the influence is one of the main ‘fatal factors’ raising danger on roads—alongside speeding, phone distractions, and not wearing a seatbelt. Kent Police are urging all drivers to stay smart and safe this festive season.
