Shock video sparks Sussex Police probe after bus brawl in Eastbourne
Sussex Police have launched an urgent investigation after a shocking clip surfaced online showing an officer allegedly assaulting a restrained man on a bus outside Arlington Arms in Eastbourne.
What happened on the bus?
The trouble started around 9.40pm on July 16, when officers were called over a rowdy passenger refusing to pay his fare or leave the bus.
According to Sussex Police, the man was abusive towards both other passengers and officers. He was detained and restrained inside the bus, and warned about assaulting the police.
Eventually, officers removed the man from the bus. He has since been charged with assaulting an officer and using threatening or abusive behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Police under the microscope
Sussex Police confirm their Professional Standards Department is reviewing the conduct of officers involved. They’re examining all available footage, including bodycam videos, to get to the bottom of the incident.
“We are aware of this incident that the officer has highlighted himself,” the force said.
