UK to Ban Terrorgram Collective – World First for Online Neo-Fascist Network
The UK is set to become the first country worldwide to ban the Terrorgram collective, a notorious online neo-fascist terrorist group. A draft proscription order against Terrorgram was laid in Parliament today, April 22, with the Home Secretary confirming the landmark move.
Crackdown on Hate: Terrorgram Outlawed
The Terrorgram collective pumps out violent propaganda aimed at radicalising young people to carry out terrorist attacks. If Parliament approves the order, which is expected to come into force on April 26, anyone belonging to or supporting Terrorgram could face up to 14 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
Home Secretary James Cleverly said: “The Terrorgram collective spreads vile propaganda and aims to radicalise young people to conduct heinous terrorist acts. This is why we are outlawing membership or support for the group – we will not tolerate the promotion or encouragement of terrorism in the United Kingdom.”
“It will become the first online terrorist network to be proscribed, alongside 80 other Extreme Right-Wing and Islamist organisations, as we continue to disrupt and outlaw terrorist groups to protect the British people.”
Online Terrorism Targeted with Tough New Measures
Proscription will make it illegal to display, invite support for, or be a member of Terrorgram. It also gives counter-terrorism police powers to force tech companies and social media platforms to remove the group’s content for UK users.
The Terrorgram collective glorifies neo-fascist attacks, calling offenders “saints,” and even shares how-to guides to help others plan similar terrorist acts.
Security Minister Tom Tugendhat added: “The Terrorgram collective is a dangerous neo-fascist organisation that actively encourages and promotes terrorist activity. We must do everything in our power to deter and limit the reach of hateful and terrorist ideologies, and to protect the most vulnerable in our society. Proscribing the Terrorgram collective will do just that.”
Rising Threat of Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism
The UK Government labels Terrorgram the sixth extreme right-wing group to be proscribed, amid a rising threat from this menace. Terrorgram promotes militant accelerationist and neo-fascist ideologies aimed at sparking a “Race War” and collapse of Western society.
The group previously incited violence including antisemitic attacks and glorified the 2022 Slovakia LGBTQ+ nightclub shooting, where two people were killed. That attacker credited Terrorgram’s materials in his manifesto.
This move highlights the UK’s commitment to tackling both Islamist and extreme right-wing terrorism, especially online radicalisation targeting young people.
Terrorgram will now join 81 banned organisations in the UK’s terrorist list, including ISIS, National Action, Wagner Group, and Hizb ut-Tahrir.
