Two Arrested After Shocking Early Morning Crime in York City Centre
Police have arrested two suspects following a disturbing incident in York’s city centre in the early hours of Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The event happened between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., targeting the Piccadilly and North Street areas.
Detective Chief Inspector Speaks Out
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page called the episode “shocking” and acknowledged the worry it has sparked among locals. He said, “This is a shocking incident, and I understand it will have caused significant concern in the local community.”
He added that enquiries are ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. “Two suspects have now been arrested,” DCI Page confirmed, “but we need the public’s help to piece together what happened.”
Increased Police Presence to Reassure Public
In response, York’s Neighbourhood Policing Team will ramp up patrols across the city centre today and throughout the weekend. Their goal is to provide extra reassurance during this tense time.
