Two Bailed After Failed Hit on Waterlooville Drug Dealer Jamie Sibley
Two suspects have been bailed after a botched hit left notorious Waterlooville drug dealer Jamie Sibley fighting for his life. The 34-year-old Crookhorn man was seriously wounded in a shotgun attack that saw pellets lodged in his brain.
Gun Attack in Athena Avenue
The violent incident happened just after midnight on Monday, February 13, at an Athena Avenue flat. Police say Jamie Sibley was shot in the head around 12:50am and remains in a critical condition at Southampton General Hospital.
Armed police swooped within hours, arresting a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman at a Havant address near High Lawn Way on suspicion of attempted murder. Both have since been bailed until April 28.
Neighbours Fearful as Violence Shakes Quiet Community
Locals know Sibley as a major drug dealer who moved to the area after prison in 2014 for various shoplifting offences. A Crookhorn neighbour, speaking anonymously, explained: “He has blighted an otherwise quiet area.”
“I heard the gunshot after the pair turned up at the property. They then fled. The woman keeps coming around to score drugs.”
Police continue their investigation, combing Athena Avenue and other nearby streets for clues but so far have had little luck.
Police Push for Witnesses and Dashboard Footage
Detective Inspector Gareth Jones appealed to the public: “Did you hear a gunshot on Athena Avenue shortly before 1am? Did you see anything suspicious? Have you got dashcam footage that could help identify who left the scene early on Monday morning?”
Jones thanked those who have already come forward but stressed that more information is crucial to cracking the case.
Third Suspect Held, Community on Edge
A third suspect, a 31-year-old Waterlooville woman, was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and remains in custody.
Inspector David Humphries reassured residents: “This type of violence is very rare here. We’re carrying out house-to-house enquiries and boosting patrols to keep Crookhorn safe.”
He urged anyone with concerns to speak to officers on patrol and promised the Neighbourhood Policing Team will address any issues uncovered.
The hunt continues to find those truly responsible for the savage attack on Jamie Sibley.
