Hate Crime Shakes Community
Officers rushed to the scene but found no victim or witnesses. However, the following day, a third party informed police that a man claimed he had been attacked in the same spot the night before. Hackney police launched an immediate investigation.
They soon traced the victim, a 54-year-old man, who had left the country on a pre-planned trip. Located on 3 December, he gave a full statement and is being supported by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). Thankfully, his injuries were minor.
Police Appeal for Public Help
Detective Superintendent Adam Ghaboos of the Met’s Central East BCU said:
“Shockingly, hate crime affects people from all walks of life and impacts communities everywhere. Everyone has the right to walk the streets free from fear of abuse. The Met will not tolerate discrimination in any form and is fully committed to tackling crimes like this.”
“Since the incident was reported, we’ve been working closely with the community and partners to get to the bottom of what happened. We’ve now spoken to the victim, who was abroad shortly after the attack, and he is helping with our investigation.”
“We are urgently asking the public to help identify two men we want to speak to in connection with this attack. They were caught on CCTV at Stamford Hill station.”
