Stolen Toyota Hilux Leads Police on 90mph Chase Through Nottinghamshire
A stolen Toyota Hilux sparked a high-speed police chase on Nottinghamshire’s A6097 yesterday evening after an unmarked police car spotted it driving erratically near Lowdham at 6.15pm on 23 July 2022.
Dangerous Drive Sparks Pursuit
The driver carried out reckless manoeuvres along the A612 Nottingham Road, forcing a tactical pursuit officer to activate blue lights and sirens. The Hilux didn’t stop and hit speeds of up to 90mph, running red lights and nearly smashing into a fellow motorist.
Crash and Arrest Follow High-Speed Reversing
About ten minutes into the chase, the driver slammed the truck into reverse at high speed, smashing into the unmarked police car and wrecking it badly. The pursuit continued into Farndon, ending when two suspects fled the vehicle.
Thanks to a police helicopter, both men, aged 30 and 33, were quickly caught and arrested at the scene.
Charges and Police Praise
Both suspects now face multiple charges including dangerous driving, failing to stop, refusing breath and saliva tests, trailer theft, assaulting an officer, and criminal damage with intent to endanger life.
“Fantastic teamwork by officers to stop the truck. This serves as a warning to anyone thinking of outrunning us – officers are highly trained and it won’t be long before we catch you,” said Inspector Abigail Goucher of Nottinghamshire Police.
“Two men have been arrested and our investigation is ongoing.”
