Fuel Theft Foiled on A249 After Early Morning Police Sting

Police on the A249 near Bobbing spotted a suspicious car tailing an HGV in a lay-by at 3.45am on Monday, 13 March 2023.

As the officers moved in, two men bolted. Enter Police Dog Ciara and her handler, who launched a swift search across nearby fields.

Suspects Caught and Bailed

The pair, aged 30 and 21, were soon nabbed. They have since been released on bail as investigations continue.

Officers also seized several fuel cannisters from the scene – clear evidence of attempted fuel theft from lorries.

Police Crack Down on Costly Fuel Theft

Inspector Steve Dunnett of Swale’s Local Policing Team said: “Fuel theft from lorries hits business owners hard, costing them thousands to keep their vehicles running.

“We have zero tolerance for those who help themselves to what’s not theirs. We’ll use every resource to bring offenders to justice.”
