Two Officers Cut Free After Horror Crash with Royal Mail Lorry in Croydon
Two police officers were rushed to hospital after their £60K police vehicle smashed into a Royal Mail lorry just after 2am on Tuesday, April 21. The terrifying collision on Purley Way, Croydon, left the officers trapped inside their smashed-up car.
Firefighters Cut Officers Free
Fire crews from 1 Fire Brigade arrived at the scene and used hydraulic cutters to slice open the vehicle’s doors and roof, freeing the trapped officers. Both were carefully placed on spinal boards and immobilised by paramedics before being rushed to hospital.
Serious Collision Shuts Purley Way
Purley Way remains closed this morning as police and a specialist collision team investigate. It’s not yet clear if the police car was responding to an emergency at the time.
Fellow Officer Prays for Colleagues
“They are really nice guys. We haven’t been told much about what happened,” said PC Chamberlain, who works alongside the injured officers at Croydon. “We’re all hoping they’re okay.”
The Met Police have been contacted for comment but have yet to release details. The public awaits updates on the officers’ condition as the investigation continues.
