IOPC Launches Probe After Crash on A21 Involving Police Pursuit
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has opened an investigation into a serious crash on the A21 near Johns Cross, Sussex, on Thursday, March 16. Two vehicles collided, one driven by a 16-year-old boy who was allegedly chased by police moments before the smash.
Teen Taken to Hospital Then Held in Custody
The teenage driver was rushed to hospital with minor injuries but later released into police custody, said an IOPC spokesperson. The other car’s three passengers suffered serious injuries and were also hospitalised.
IOPC Steps In, Families to Be Contacted
The police informed the IOPC immediately, prompting investigators to visit the scene and begin post-incident procedures. The watchdog confirmed it will reach out to the victims’ families to offer sympathy and explain the ongoing investigation.
Early Days in Probe; Police Conduct Under Scrutiny
The investigation remains at an early stage. Officials are working with police and other agencies to piece together exactly what happened and whether any police misconduct played a role in the collision.
Road crashes are always tragic, but this one looks especially serious. The IOPC’s probe aims to deliver answers and closure for all affected.
