Man’s Body Found in River Thames at Shepperton
Surrey Police were called just after midnight when a witness spotted a man entering the River Thames. Officers, joined by Surrey Fire and Rescue, launched a search operation along the river.
Victim Recovered in Early Hours
At around 2am, the body of a man in his 60s was pulled from the water near Russell Road, Shepperton. Formal identification has yet to take place, but police confirm a post-mortem ruled drowning as the cause of death.
Man Arrested as Murder Inquiry Launched
A 47-year-old man was arrested nearby and remains in custody. Sources say the victim and suspect likely knew each other. Detective Chief Inspector Paddy Mayers said:
“At this stage the deceased has not been formally identified. We’re investigating the circumstances that led to him being found in the river.”
“We’re following a number of lines of enquiry, conducting searches and knocking on doors. We urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in Shepperton between 10pm and 1am last night to come forward.”
