Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce Bust Knives, Drugs and Gun in Weekend Blitz
The Met’s new Violent Crime Taskforce swooped on London’s streets last weekend, seizing a haul of knives, drugs, and a revolver handgun. The heavy-handed crackdown took place on Saturday and Sunday, targeting violent crime hotspots across the capital.
40+ Stop and Searches Yield Big Results
Inspector Peter Moxham revealed the team carried out over 40 stop and searches and raided eight north London properties. The operation led to seven arrests, with the Taskforce removing offensive weapons and Class A drugs from the streets.
“Many members of local communities engaged with us positively and told us how happy they are with the activities we were undertaking to disrupt violent crime,” said Moxham. “Quite often, we are patrolling in undercover vehicles and dressed in plain clothes – just because you cannot see us, does not mean we are not around.”
Full-Throttle Fight Against Violent Crime
Formed from handpicked, full-time officers dedicated solely to violent and weapon-enabled crimes, the Taskforce uses both covert and overt tactics. Their mission: to hunt down offenders from street-level thugs to major criminal feeders.
Supported by Borough officers, Trident, Area Crime Command, specialist units and community partners, the Taskforce promises relentless pressure on offenders “above and below ground.” This means more visible uniformed patrols and undercover strikes aiming to cut knife crime and murders.
Communities Back the Crackdown
Local residents have welcomed the tough policing, expressing hope for increased patrols and ongoing action. The Taskforce is determined to leave a lasting impact and restore safety across London’s neighbourhoods.
