Couple Jailed for Brutally Beating Toddler with “Unimaginable” Force

Nursery Staff Spot Horrific Bruises

Michael Leeson, 35, and Gemma Lister, 37, were arrested in March 2018 after nursery workers noticed severe bruising on a three-year-old child. The Protecting Vulnerable People Team launched a full probe, uncovering that the toddler had been repeatedly beaten over several weeks.

Child’s Injuries Described as “Inflicted with Maximum Force”

The youngster was rushed to hospital, where a paediatric consultant condemned the wounds as being caused with “as much force as one can imagine.” Gemma Lister, from Doncaster, pleaded guilty to child neglect and was handed a two-year community order at Sheffield Crown Court on 23 July.

Leeson Sentenced to Over Two Years Behind Bars

Michael Leeson, currently homeless but formerly from Doncaster, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison. Detective Inspector Simon Leake said: “This was a heart-breaking case. The child couldn’t speak out, so we made sure their voice was heard. I commend the tireless efforts of Health, Social Care and Education partners. Protecting the vulnerable remains a top priority and we will always strive to bring offenders to justice.”
