Maidstone Menace Jailed After Threats and High-Speed Crash

A troublemaker who threatened bar staff in Maidstone and then sped off from police has been locked up.

Threats, a Dangerous Escape and a Crash

In the early hours of April 9, 2019, Phillip Mensah was kicked out of a Market Buildings bar after a row. He then threatened the door staff before heading outside.

Police spotted Mensah sitting in a white BMW on Earl Street. When officers approached, he refused to talk—and then sped off. His reckless drive took him through a red light at Fairmeadow, where he crashed into another car.

Woman Seriously Injured as Mensah Flees

The collision left a woman with serious head and neck injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Mensah bolted from the scene but was caught shortly after in Gabriel’s Hill.

Justice Served: Jail and Long Driving Ban

Mensah, 36, from Rowan Lea, Chatham, pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to a string of charges:

  • Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Driving without insurance
  • Failing to stop after an accident
  • Failing to stop for police
  • Jumping a red light
  • Using threatening words and behaviour

He was sentenced to two and a half years behind bars and banned from driving for over six years.

Kent Police’s Maidstone District Commander, Chief Inspector Ray Quiller, slammed Mensah’s actions:

“His threats to the door staff were appalling and his dangerous driving put everyone at risk. A prison sentence was the only fitting punishment.”

Officers remain committed to keeping Maidstone’s nightlife safe, ensuring troublemakers like Mensah face the full force of the law.
