Officers first received a report shortly after 8 p.m. (Mon 6 June) regarding a male sat on a high wall that crosses a busy road at Ehringshausen Way in town. Police arrived and spoke with the individual, who then left the scene.
Later that evening, just before 9.30 p.m., police received a call from the ambulance service reporting that a male in his late 40s had suffered serious injuries after falling from a high bridge in the Hamlet Road area. A cordon was erected after police arrived. A short time later, the male, who was confirmed to be the same person involved in the first incident, was pronounced dead. The death is being investigated as unexplained, and the coroner will be notified as soon as possible.
The Independent Office of Police Conduct was notified, as is customary after a death following initial police contact.
