A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following two separate crossbow attacks in London, announced the Metropolitan Police.

The arrest took place as part of an intelligence-led policing operation in Shoreditch around 11 pm on Sunday. The operation was in response to two incidents earlier this month in the same area, where individuals were injured in crossbow attacks.

During the arrest, officers conducted a search of an address which led to the discovery of a crossbow, knives, and other weapons.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway expressed understanding of the community’s concern following these incidents, emphasizing the immediate and dynamic police response. He highlighted the significant investigative efforts involving CCTV trawls, intelligence gathering, and forensic analysis, along with public appeals and reassurance patrols by neighbourhood teams.

The police operation received strong support from partners, particularly the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

While acknowledging the arrest as a significant development, Conway stressed that the investigation remains complex and ongoing.

Individuals with any information regarding these incidents are urged to contact the police on 101, quoting Operation Goldwater. Alternatively, they can provide anonymous tips to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
